Mimi - A Brief Biography...

Mimi took her first dancing class aged 2 ½, and spent her childhood at stage schools training to be a dancer, singer and actress. She started working life aged 15, as a professional dancer, later becoming a professional singer.

Since then she has always sung for people to dance to, she loves people having fun and enjoying themselves

Having been a working singer and recording artist for most of her life she has sung everywhere, from the big London discos, to working men's clubs and the smallest of venues - with rock bands, blues bands, as a duo and solo artist, singing pop, rock, country, blues, rock 'n roll, jazz, R&B, disco ,dance, etc..

In the 80's Mimi had five disco/dance tracks out (including 'The Man's So Real - see Discomusic.com and enclosed publicity) which unbelievably are still changing hands worldwide. Mimis personal favourite being 'No More', was written by Rick de Jongh, who has indicated a re-release in the future.
Backing vocals on some sessions were provided by Beverley Skeete and Julia Fordham

Mimi also sang the original demo for Lonnie Gordons' successful release "Love Eviction"

Mimi has also appeared on several radio and television commercials - notably, doing the main vocal and lead voiceover on the Harmony Hair Colours TV commercial, (What colours do you dream? - see video page ) with the Radio 2 presenter Janey Lee Grace - and radio voice-overs working with Robert Powell and John Woodvine.

Over the years Mimi has sung thousands of other peoples songs, but has also written many of her own,

For instance, a friend bemoaned that people don't seem to have as much fun as they used to, and what we needed was some "good old fashioned fun". This resulted in the song 'Fun'.

As for 'Linedancin' and 'Linedance Blues', Mimi was singing in a club one night where the audience were all into linedancing, and it seemed to bring everyone together old and young. They were enjoying themselves so much that it inspired her to write her own linedancing songs - which also demonstrate her sharp sense of humour..

'If You've Got It - Flaunt It' speaks for itself! "I like to think that they're funny and people can have a laugh when they're dancing to them". The songs on the 'If You've Got It - Flaunt It', album are all written and performed by Mimi (except 'The Protest', which was a poem written by the poet Irene Romilly), which Mimi set to music.
In 2000 Mimi was pleased to achieve a songwriting commendation from the UNISONG organisation for her song London Daze.

Mimis' friend and producer Mick West (a brilliant rock guitarist, singer and songwriter too) has always believed in her and her mad songs, helping Mimi to record them at his studio, and providing the music, arrangements and production on them.

His guitar playing often features on Mimis' tracks - most recently on 'Haste Ye Back', which Mimi began to write after leaving Maybole in Ayrshire in 2000, when visiting Scotland to do some family history research.

"As I left the town, I noticed a sign saying 'Haste Ye Back', and was so touched by the sentiment of it (and the fact that a long term relationship of mine had just come to end) that I wrote 'Haste Ye Back', which is a true story, that was inspired by the warmth and hospitality of Scotland."

In Mimi's own words...

"I must say, the idea of people dancing to my records and having a good time (and hopefully forgetting their cares and woes) fills me with happiness, and if it comes to it, I might even do an about turn, and join the dancers again! "

Best wishes,

Mimi x
